Wind Band piece commissioned for the Jugend Blasorchester Bernsdorf, 2026. Symphonic Sketches is a vibrant soundscape for wind band, exploring colour and motion through music. Conceived as a single, continuous movement of about seven minutes, the work unfolds like an impressionistic painting, where musical hues blend and shift to form a vivid panorama of sound. The piece draws its inspiration from three colours: yellow, representing the flowing, lyrical main melody that illuminates the opening; green, symbolising growth and renewal, emerging in developing passages at letters D and K; and blue, embodied by the noble and resonant brass textures at letter H. Together, these colours shape the emotional and structural arc of the piece, from radiant energy to expansive grandeur. Though symphonic in scope, Symphonic Sketches retains the spontaneity of a study — a series of musical impressions sketched in bold strokes and glowing tones — culminating in a celebratory close befitting its fanfare-like spirit.
