Andrea Hobson

Euphonium Player | Composer | Educator

Andrea Hobson is a South African euphonium player, composer and brass educator based in Germany. Her professional work encompasses euphonium performance, composition, brass-band music, chamber music, conducting and music education.

As a performer, Andrea has worked with orchestras, brass bands and ensembles in South Africa, Germany, Switzerland and internationally. She currently performs with the Polizeiorchester Thüringen and maintains an active career as a soloist and chamber musician.

As a composer, Andrea writes music for euphonium, brass band, brass ensemble, chamber ensembles and solo instruments. Her compositions have been performed internationally and selected as repertoire for major euphonium competitions and brass-band championships.

Her works include Inspired by Blue, African Sky, Silver-Backed Fox, Dawn, Gazella, Wilderness Funk and Fearless. Her music has been featured at international competitions and festivals including the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium & Tuba Festival, Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival, SCRTEC, SERTEC and the RNCM International Brass Band Festival.

Andrea is also active as a music educator and conductor, working with young musicians, brass ensembles and youth brass bands. Her teaching focuses particularly on euphonium and low brass, ensemble playing, musical development and contemporary brass repertoire.
